What are image sizes?

One of the features of White Menu is to manage the re-sizing of any images that you upload, whether its for a Photo Gallery, a slider on the home page, or a Menu item. This means that images are always consistent for design purposes, and optimised for faster loading when your customers view them.

In order to let us know how you expect images to be re-sized, you can define Image Sizes in the Settings section of your White Menu account.

In brief, this allows you to define the width and height of the re-sized image as well as the background colour (in case the original image doesn't fit precisely into the new dimensions).

You can also specify the mode or type of Image Size, described below:

  • Fixed Dimensions: Forces the image into the specified dimensions (may result in distortion of the image). The resulting image size will always be consistent.
  • Maximum Dimensions: Resizes the image to fit fully into the specified dimensions. The resulting image size will vary according to the aspect ratio of the original image.
  • Crop and Centre: Fits the image into the specified dimensions by cropping and centring the original image. The resulting image size will always be consistent.
